Study and modelling of the bioprocesses involved in the industrial wastewater bioremediation
Abstract
In the actual context of the modern tendencies of the research activities to find new efficient and eco-friendly solutions to reduce the environment pollution, the PhD thesis, entitled The study and modelling of the bioprocesses involved in the industrial wastewater bioremediation, reveal a number of original contributions for fundamental and applied research, with great importance for the identification of some efficient solutions to remove the biodegradable and persistent chemical compounds from wastewaters. This PhD facilitated an interdisciplinary research, techniques from classical and modern biotechnology, modelling and advanced control of the bioprocesses being applied. The solutions will contribute to the research recovery for biotechnology application in the environment protection and bioremediation fields in Romania. The studies performed in this PhD project had the following objectives:
The qualitative analysis of the dairy wastewater microbiota.
- Biochemical characterization and molecular identification of some wastewater isolated microorganisms with high biodegradation potential.
- Study on the bioprocesses responsible of the organic pollutants removal from the simulated dairy wastewaters, in pilot conditions.
- Modeling and simulation of the biological treatment processes of the wastewater using submerse cultivation system and aerobic conditions.
- Kinetic and modelling of the heavy metals biosorption process.
To perform the research activities provided in the doctoral curriculum and which answer to the scientifical objectives of the PhD thesis, the infrastructure of the following modern laboratories was used:
- The wastewater pilot plant from the faculty of Food Science and Engineering from Dunarea de Jos University, Galati.
- Biotechnology Applied in Food Industry – Integrated Center for Research and Education - Bioaliment (www.bioaliment.ugal.ro), faculty of Food Science and Engineering from Dunarea de Jos University, Galati.
- Molecular Genetics and Bioprocess Engineering laboratories from the Institute of Biotechnology, and the Hydrogeology laboratory of the Institute of Geology Sciences from the Technical University from Berlin, Germany.
