There are several different parameters that affect the fretting fatigue behaviour of materials. The present work is focused on the influence of the wear damage evolution. Results of fretting fatigue experimental tests carried out on two different alloys (Al7175 and Ck45), in contact with a 34CrNiMo6 steel pad, as well as results of reciprocate sliding wear tests carried out with the same alloys, are presented. It was found that the synergistic effect between wear and fatigue is much dependent on the wear behaviour of the materials. It was also observed that the Al7175 alloy is more sensitive to fretting fatigue than the Ck45 alloy, this being justified by its lower resistance to damage by wear. The fretting fatigue tests were carried out in a fretting fatigue apparatus assembled on a servo hydraulic fatigue testing machine and the wear tests in a pin-on-plate reciprocating wear machine. The surface damage characterisation was done by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).ro_RO
