A Simple Device for Modelling Bioarticular Joint Friction
Abstract
In this paper a simple device for modelling bioarticular friction is presented. The experimental device serves to simulate the movement as it would take place in a knee joint. Key components of the experimental device are a cartilage covered bone end and a glass disc. Different types of motion appear between these elements: rolling alternating with sliding, rolling and sliding, both combined with a motion along the normal direction. The friction coefficient between the bone end covered with cartilage, and the glass disc is evaluated during the motion in the presence of different lubricants.
